Corduroy
Corduroy fabric is a woven fabric with a distinctive texture. Corduroy has 'ridges' of raised fabric which are soft to touch. These 'ridges' are called wales. Corduroy size is measured by how many wales there are per inch. For example, 8 wale corduroy is the number of wales per inch. The more the wale, the finer the corduroy. This tends to be called fine needle corduroy. Corduroy comes in a variety of colours and is perfect for trousers, skirts, dresses, dungarees, cushions, etc. Some corduroy fabrics contain some stretch which can be used in close fitting garments such as skirts and trousers. Check your pattern for the required type of fabric.
